Accreditation and Assessment

Accreditation:

The Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org and the Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET, https://www.abet.org. This means that the programs undergo periodic review to make sure they continue to meet academic standards, and that they continue to evolve to meet student and employer needs. Both programs will undergo their next review in the 2022-2023 academic year. More information on ABET can be found here.

Program Educational Objectives are the expected accomplishments of graduates of a program during their first three to five years after graduation.

Student Outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation.

Assessment:

All courses in the Computer Science and Software Engineering curricula have course outcomes associated with them. The outcomes of required courses are mapped to the student outcomes described previously, and after each course offering, these student outcomes are assessed. The department has set the goal that 75% of all students will have met each student outcome at a performance level of 70% (C-) or better. Results of the assessment are presented to the Assessment Committee annually as part of our Industry Advisory Board meeting. Any outcomes falling below our threshold of performance are reviewed and suggestions for improvements are discussed. As part of our continuous improvement plan, suggestions that are to be implemented are logged and tracked for success.

Departmental standardized assessment forms are used to assess writing assignments and presentations:
Standardized Written Evaluation Form
Standardized Oral Evaluation Form
