About This Site

This site intended as the gateway to all of the Montana Tech Department of Computer Science web resources and also provides links to Montana Tech information for Future Students, Current Students, Alumni & Giving, and Career Services (see “Tech Links” in side bar).

 

An Overview and a Mission statement follows the home page slide show. Following these two items are news items. News items can be posted by any registered student or member of the CS department faculty via the Current Student Login/Register link. All news items are checked by the department administrator before they appear on the Home page, as are revisions to these items.

The  "Prospective Students” banner link is directed toward answering any questions a prospective student might have about our programs. The “Prospective Students” link displays a page that describes the philosophical difference Computer Science (CS) & Software Engineering (SE). The drop-down links under this banner link are:

Tell Us About Yourself
This link provides a prospective student with the opportunity to communicate with our faculty about our programs and environment. Optionally, a prospective student may wish to join our department Facebook site.

Degrees & Options
This is the same link that is provided on the sidebar. It links to information about our programs that is useful to both perspective students and current students

Placement & Careers
This is the same link that is provided on the sidebar. It links to statistics on job placement of our graduates and on the types of careers that they will be qualified for when they complete one of our programs.

Scholarships
This is the same link that is provided on the sidebar. It links to information on the financial aid that is available to students applying for our programs.

Tutors & Laboratory Assistants
Our department staffs our course laboratories and our major public  laboratory with tutors to help not only our own students but any students that use our laboratory. This link provides a current listing of our tutors and their responsibilities.

CS/SE Student Life
This link describes some of the advantages enjoyed by Computer Science (CS) and Software Engineering (SE) students over and above the advantages they enjoy as Montana Tech students.

SE Standards
Our software engineering courses make extensive use of department specific standards that provide guidance on creating all of the artifacts associated with developing high quality, software products. These standards are continually updated as we gain experience in developing quality products in our environment. This link provides a list of links to access or download any of these standards.

This is the same link that is provided for Prospective Students. It provides a place for alumni to inform our students about careers and to discuss educational and career issues with our students.

Alumni Survey
As part of our accreditation process we must periodically survey our alumni about the aspects of our program that they found most useful in their careers to date and the aspects that they do not think were particularly useful.

Alumni Giving
All of our alumni have a stake in helping to ensure that graduates from Montana Tech, and in particular CS and SE graduates are considered to be among the best in America.

Both our CS and SE programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). This link provides information that is necessary or useful in keeping our programs accredited.

Projects
To fulfill our mission it is necessary that our students carry out several programming and software development projects as part of their course work. Our faculty also carry out  programming and software development projects as part of their teaching and research activities. Industry Advisory Board
Representative from the segments of industry and government in which our graduates are likely to look for jobs attend a year advisory board meeting. This link describes the charter of this board, its current list of members & links to past minutes.
